The field of Old Testament exegesis focuses on the texts of the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism. It studies these texts regarding their language, literary features, historical and religious background. At the same time, these texts are understood as part of the Christian Bible. Old Testament exegesis thus encompasses theology, philology, and history. At the University of Würzburg, we are especially interested in Jewish literature of the Hellenistic and Roman period, the Septuagint, local self-organization in antiquity, and Jewish-Christian dialogue.
